With Sangiovese yields down by some 90% in the 2014 vintage, a consequence of the harsh frost the preceeding October, we were able to augment our Sangiovese with fruit from the Heathcote region. This wine, a very good example of a Heathcote Sangiovese, is comprised predominantly of Brunello biotypes, expressing typical concentrated, rich berry fruit characters. Deep garnet in colour, this wine has a bouquet of briary, dark cherry and dried herbs, with a hint of chocolate. The palate displays rich fruit characters of marzipan, spicy cloves and roasted coffee beans with a lick of vanilla. A savoury, complex wine, the Sangiovese concludes with firm, dry tannins and a pleasing, long finish.
