Vinea Marson Wine Bottles

Main

Vinea Marson, the name of our vineyard, derives from the Latin word for vineyard, Vinea, and our family name, Marson, from the province of Pordenone in Friuli Venezia Giulia, northern Italy.

Mario Marson, the owner-winemaker, graduated with a Bachelor in Agricultural Science from La Trobe University in 1981 and in Applied Science (Wine Science) from Charles Sturt University in 1986.

After graduation from La Trobe University in 1981, Mario has worked in the wine industry, in the Yarra Valley and more recently in Heathcote, Central Victoria. The majority of his time in the Yarra Valley was spent at Mount Mary Vineyard working as a winemaker-viticulturist with Dr. John Middleton, an influential mentor. In more recent years, while establishing his own vineyard, Mario worked as winemaker at Jasper Hill Vineyard with Ron Laughton. Since 2004, he has devoted his time to continuing the development of Vinea Marson and to working as a viticultural consultant and winemaker for Stefani Estate.

Pivotal experiences were gained in vintage work overseas. In 1994 Mario visited his friend Paolo di Marchi at Isole e Olena and worked with Gérard Potel at Domaine de la Pousse d’Or in Volnay, Burgundy. More recently in 2003, he worked at Paolo’s estate Isole e Olena in Tuscany and his Piedmont Vineyard at Lessona.
