2010 was a very good year in Heathcote. Moderate winter rains were great for the soil and the resulting water retention meant that, unlike recent years, the vines had a healthy canopy and were not stressed in the summer period.
To ensure fruit quality, a rigorous program of crop reduction was undertaken. The ripening season was milder than previous years and at harvest the crop yields were consistent with other good years.
Harvest occurred throughout March, with the Shiraz (3, 4, 11 March), Viognier (11 March), Sangiovese (11 & 18 March) and Nebbiolo (28-29 March) all providing good yields. The fruit displayed excellent ripeness with tannin and acid levels very well balanced.
This was a superb vintage for our red wines.
