Garnet red in colour, the 2013 Sangiovese possesses a concentrated nose of dark cherry, dried prunes and spicy cloves with hints of roasted coffee beans and a lick of vanilla. The palate is similarly complex - briary with rich notes of dark cherry. This sensory battle between savoury and fruit characters provides great complexity on the palate and is followed by firm and elegant tannins and a pleasing, long finish. Winemaker Mario Marson believes this wine demonstrates Heathcote’s potential for the production of premium Sangiovese.
‘The bouquet is full of an Arabian bazaar of exotic warm spices over a compote of cherry and plum; the savoury side of sangiovese takes control of the palate - a tale of two cities, but a compelling one.’ 95 Points - James Halliday
